Seasons Greetings – Presidents Report

Hello everyone,  last Thursday we staged our annual cricket dinner/auction with our patron, David Gower.  As always, he was outstanding! Thank youDavid for being such a wonderfully gracious, entertaining and stylish guest and patron for the past 20 years and for your so enjoyable speech.

There were 452 members and guests in attendance at the Hyatt. Of the 44 tables of ten, a whopping 26 were hosted by our members, an enormous effort – thanks so much.  A further 15 members were also there to enjoy the evening.  We had 50 items in the main auction and a further 90 in the silent one!

Tim Gossage was so enthusiastic as our celebrity auctioneer and his skills and passion helped us raise $127,000 from the main auction – thanks Tim for such a great effort.

And with such an array of items for the silent auction we added a further $27,000 to the tally.

Taking into account some unavoidable overheads, ticket sales and donations, our final total was an amazing $153,000, our best ever result.  Thank you everybody for the part you played.

After about 30 minutes of the auction we were able to announce, and celebrate, passing through the $5,000,000 mark since our inception in 1987, including $3,000,000 in the last seven years!!  How fantastic is that!  Lucky rhinos!

In particular, a big thank you to our main sponsor for the evening, Nia and Travel Directors.

And our wonderful donors – Sandalford Wines, Gage Roads Beers, Picasso Print & Design, Meridian Services, Annalice Framing, Brinkhaus Jewellers, Clive Boyle, Point2 Solutions, Dinah Griggs, Primewest (Indijup Spa Retreat), Mokore Ranch (Save Valley), Singita Pamashana (Malilangwe), Camp Amalinda, Ivory Lodge, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Peter Hall (Hunter Hall), The Hide, The Victoria Falls Hotel, Ngoma Safari Camp, Camp Xakanaxa, Mack Air, Owen Brigdon, Travel Directors, Sky TV, Gary Player, Martin Storey, Robyn Spinley, Margaret Hilbert, Kimberly Rae, Rohan Jewellery, Jill Henderson, Alex James, Leslie Henderson, Ploypan Westwood, Chris Wiles, John Whitehead, Jackie Wigh, Yvonne Piarchniarski and Dawn Stephens.

All of the above businesses and individuals opened their hearts and gave to such a wonderful cause – thank you all so much!  Without our supporters and helpers we’d be struggling.

We again applaud our very own Big Five – Mike, Kim, Nia, Evelyn and Steve – for all their fantastic help over the last ten years, during which time we’ve grown from strength to strength.

To the remainder of our committee and sub committee – Nina, Cameron, Helen, Evan, Kelly, Rick, Fadzai and Patrick – may you all have a big ten years ahead of you as we continue to grow, and thanks for what you’ve done so far.

All being well there will be another celebrity dinner/auction late next year and we hope that you will again come along and make it into another record breaking event, please.  Meanwhile, the 1,000th rhino for the year has just been shot and killed for its horn, so please lend your support to their protection as best you can.
